This weekend’s UAE releases include a Tamil romcom and a clean shaven Mammooty. First up, Tamil director Ezhil, best remembered for his romantic stories, Thulladha Manamum Thullum and Poovellam Un Vasam is back with Desingu Raja, a comedy.

Featuring Vimal and Telegu actor Bindu Madhavi in the lead, this story is about the fate of two lovers who hail from two different villages that are always at loggerheads with each other.

Naturally there is a lot of action involved, but Ezhil said the narrative is woven with comedy, making the film an entertainment film.

Supported by comedians like Parotta Suri and Singam Puli, you can expect loads of humour.

Music is scored by D Imman. Sooraj Nalluswamy has handled the camera.

In Malayali cinema, scriptwriter-turned-director Renjith needs no introduction. Winner of several awards including the national award this year for the Mohan Lal starrer, Spirit, Renjith’s films are eagerly awaited.

His latest film, ‘Kadal Kadannoru Mathukutty,’ features a clean-shaven Mammooty as Mathukutty, living in Germany with his family. When the German Malayali association entrusts him with the responsibility of organizing a cultural show, Mathukutty is overjoyed at the opportunity of visiting his homeland. So, when he arrives in Kerala, it revives old memories — including that of his ex-lover, Rosy.

Other members of the cast are Alisha Mohammad, Muthumani, Meera Nandan and Nedumudi Venu.

Produced by August Cinemas, this story is based on Renjith’s script. Cinematography is by Madhu Neelakantan. Music is by Shahabas Aman.
