Two of the world’s top classical soloists are heading to Abu Dhabi this autumn: Welsh mezzo-soprano Katherine Jenkins and Spanish tenor Jose Carreras will perform at the du Arena on Yas Island at an all-seated show on October 25. Tickets go on sale tomorrow, say organisers.

The pair will be backed by highly regarded conductor David Gimenez a nephew of Carreras and the music director of the Orquestra Simfonica del Valles and a principal guest conductor of the George Enescu Philharmonic Orchestra. It’s the second time they will perform together.

This will be Jenkins’ first time in the UAE, while Carreras, famously known as one of the Three Tenors along with Plácido Domingo and the late Italian singer Luciano Pavarotti, last performed in the capital in 2007. With 40 years of performances behind him, he is today considered one of the leading lights of classical music.

Jenkins, with more than 10 studio albums to her credit, is known for her crossover appeal, straddling both classical and popular musical genres. She also came second in the 2012 season of American reality show Dancing With the Stars.
