Who's in it? Ryan Reynolds, Blake Lively, Peter Sarsgaard

The plot When evil baddie, Parallax, threatens to destroy the balance of power in the Universe, the Green Lanterns' fate and the that of Earth falls into the hands of their newest recruit, test pilot, Hal Jordan - the first human ever chosen by the mystical and powerful green ring to join the Green Lantern warriors, a gang who has sworn to keep intergalactic peace. Pretty soon, Hal must use his newfound powers to defend the universe.

What we liked What's not to like about a gorgeous man with super powers? Apart from his green unitard-like costume, nothing really! The special effects, fight scenes and trips to beyond the furthest reaches of the galaxy (and back) make watching this superhero battling the baddies a visual treat. And, after her acclaimed performance in The Town, the gorgeous Lively works her cinematic magic as Hal's lifelong pal, Carol Ferris, with plenty of romantic friction and fallings out between them to keep the love interest side of things going.

What we didn't like Even though the Green Lanterns have the power to create whatever they want with their imagination, in the movie they don't live up to the comic hype. Also, at times, Reynolds - despite his beefed-up physique - appears too timid to convey the power and passion that die-hard fans of the comic book might be expecting.

Our rating 3/5

Tw-eview* As an unlikely superhero, Ryan smoulders on-screen, however, we can't fancy a man in a green eye mask! But for a slice of out-of-this-world action adventure, it's a winner.
