Celebrated French filmmaker Courant to be honoured in Dubai

Celebrated French filmmaker Gerard Courant, who holds the record for the longest film ever made, will be honoured next month at the fourth edition of the Gulf Film Festival to be held at Dubai Festival City from April 14 to 20.

The week-long festival will showcase Courant's films in its In Focus segment, organisers said.

The highlight of this section is Courant's most well-known work, Cinematon, made over 33 years, featuring short, silent self-portraits of more than 2,347 artistes.

"Courant and his body of work embody what the Gulf Film Festival is trying to achieve. His films are avant-garde; they defy conventional methods of filmmaking to create works that are in a league of their own. He is a fine example for filmmakers," said Masoud Amr Allah Al Ali, Festival Director, Gulf Film Festival.
