Dubai: The Beckhams have welcomed a fourth child to their family.

Harper Seven Beckham, born at 7:55am LA time at Cedars Sinai hospital on Sunday, July 10, is the couple’s first daughter.

David Beckham confirmed the birth of his new baby via his Facebook page, writing “I am so proud and excited to announce the birth of our daughter Harper Seven Beckham”, adding that she weighs 7lb 10z.

The LA Galaxy footballer reassured fans that “Victoria is doing really well” and that sons Brooklyn, Romeo and Cruz are “delighted to have a baby sister”.

The name chosen for the couple’s little girl is already causing a storm in Hollywood.

It is believed that ‘Seven’ is a reference to the footballer’s shirt number when he played for Manchester United and England, while ‘Harper’ could be a reference to Harper’s Bazaar magazine or To Kill A Mockingbird American author Harper Lee.

A close friend of the Beckhams told the Daily Mail “Harper is an old English name, something Victoria has always liked” and explained “Seven is a very lucky happy number and the baby was born just after 7am, in the seventh month”.

Harper Seven was, in the same way as her brothers, born by Caesarean.

A Beckham insider told The Sun that her father has been “crying with joy”, adding that they are “all so happy”. It has also been reported that the parents are “stunned” at the similarity Harper Seven shares with Victoria when she was a baby.

As news broke that Victoria Beckham had given birth to her greatly-anticipated little girl, celebrities and friends took to Twitter to congratulate the couple’s latest addition to their family.

Fellow ex-Spice Girl Emma Bunton tweeted “Big kiss to Victoria Beckham, can’t wait to meet your gorgeous girl”. Meanwhile Mel B, who is pregnant with her third child, wrote “congrats!!! Yipeee another spice baby is born”, adding “damn it wish it was me this AM cos I feel like I’m about to POP!”.

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, who met David Beckham on their LA tour last week, were also quick to send their well wishes. Press secretary Miguel Head confirmed their congratulations, but said it was unlikely the couple would be able to meet the newborn before their departure from LA later that day.
