Bollywood star Akshay Kumar says he initially did not understand the relevance of naming an action thriller Baby but gradually understood the connection of the title with the story.

The espionage thriller has been directed by Neeraj Pandey of A Wednesday and Special 26 fame. Kumar, 47, will be seen playing the role of an undercover officer in the film.

“I was very surprised when I first heard the script but slowly I got to know about the importance of the title Baby. It is a thriller with lots of action. The story has been inspired from real-life incidents. I play an undercover intelligence cop,” he told reporters during the trailer launch in Mumbai on Wednesday night. The film was partly shot in Dubai.

Baby also stars Anupam Kher, Rana Daggubati, Danny Denzongpa and Taapsee Pannu among others.

Kumar said he is very confident about the film and hopes that the audience will appreciate their effort.

“People have liked Neeraj’s film, so there is a lot of curiosity about Baby. People are waiting for the film,” the actor said.

Produced by Bhushan Kumar, Krishan Kumar, Shital Bhatia, Cape of Good Films and Crouching Tiger, Baby will hit cinema screens on January 23 next year.
