For the masses and his fans

How a random meeting with a fan can change the perspective! When Aamir Khan was told by one of his female fans that she is eager to watch Dhobi Ghat but she won’t be able to understand it as the movie is in English, the actor realized that he needs to release the film in Hindi.

For the masses and also for his fans, Aamir has decided to dub the film. His wife Kiran Rao’s directorial debut is 40 per cent in English, and that’s what worries the actor. Though the movie is beautifully made and is entirely shot in Mumbai, Aamir is not so sure about its box office success. Earlier, he even admitted that Dhobi Ghat is a sensitive film and might not click with the masses.

But since his fans are eager to watch it, Aamir is busy dubbing the movie. As the actor is quoted as saying about his meeting with lady who couldn’t understand English, “I got thinking and realised that there would be many others like her. And I spoke to Kiran and we decided that we had to have a Hindi version.”

The arthouse movie which is bilingual will open in multiplexes and overseas early next year, and its dubbed Hindi version is for single screens and in the territories where people are not so friendly with English.

Dhobi Ghat received overwhelming response when it was premiered at Toronto International Film Festival 2010.
