*Jiske Sir Upar Tu Swami- Lyrics (With Translation)*

»SukhMani«

*Nirbhau Nirvair*

Jis ke sir upar tu swami
So dukh kaisa paave
Jis ke sir upar tu swami
So dukh kaisa paave
Bol na jaane maayaa madmaataa
Marnaa chitt na aave
Marnaa chitt na aave
Jis ke sir upar tu swami
So dukh kaisa paave
Satnaam Satnaam
waaheguru waaheguru
waaheguru

Mere ram raaye
Tu santaan kaa, sant tere
Tere sewak ko bhao kichh naahin
Jamm nahin aave nedey
Jo tere rang raate swami
Tin ka janm-maran dukh naasa
Teri bakhsh na metey koi
Satgur ka dilaasaa
Satgur ka dilaasaa
Jis ke sir upar tu swami
So dukh kaisa paave
satnaam satnaam
waaheguru waaheguru
waaheguru

Naam dhyaayan
Sukh phal paayan
Aatth pehar arraadhe
Teri sharan tere parwaase
Panch dusht le saadhe
Gyaan dhyaan kichh karm na jaanaa
Saar na jaanaa teri
Sab te waddaa Satgur Nanak
Jin kal raakhi meri
Jin kal raakhi meri
Jis ke sir upar tu swami
So dukh kaisa paave
satnaam satnaam
waaheguru waaheguru
waaheguru

Jis ke sir upar tu swami,
So dukh kaisa paave

O Lord, one who is under Your protection, one who considers You to be above himself
He will not experience any suffering in life

Bol na jaane maayaa madmaataa,
Marnaa chitt na aave

(And others, who are arrogant, do not acknowledge a higher authority)
They are intoxicated with maayaa, the illusion of this world
They cannot speak the right things And are ignorant of death as the final destination
(NOTE: chitt = the center of awareness inside the human apparatus, not the same as mind. It is one of the four basic components of the non-physical human existence viz., mann (mind), buddhi (intelligence), chitt (awareness), and ahankaar (false ego)).

Mere ram raaye,
Tu santaan kaa, Sant tere
Tere sewak ko bhao kichh naahin,

Jamm nahin aave nedey

O the beloved of Lord Ram (whom I adore as mine)
You are the benefactor of saintly souls
And all saintly souls belong to You
One who serves You, has nothing to be afraid of in life
And in death, it is salvation for him, even Yamraj, the Lord of Death does not come near him
(NOTE: bhao = fear, same as bhay’; kichh = same as ‘kuchh’; jamm = Yamraj, the Lord of Death; nedey = near)

Jo tere rang raate swami,
Tin ka janm-maran dukh naasa
Teri bakhsh na metey koi,
Satgur ka dilaasaa

One who is suffused in the colors of Your influence
His sorrowful cycle of life and death is broken
Your blessing cannot be erased by any power
(One who is thus blessed by You, none can harm him)
That is the assurance of Satguru
(NOTE: rang = color; raate = suffused; tin = his; naasa = destroyed, same as ‘naash’; bakhsh = blessing; metey = erase, same as ‘mitaanaa’; dilaasaa = assurance, guaranteed)

Naam dhyaayan, sukh phal paayan,
Aatth pehar arraadhe
Teri sharan tere parwaase,
Panch dusht le saadhe

Those who meditate on Your name and worship You day and night (aatth pehar)
They will receive the fruits of happiness and bliss
Those who seek shelter in You, and depend on Your support
Will overcome and be able to control the five evils in life
(NOTE: the five evils here allude to the five senses in the human body. If these senses are not controlled, they ultimately become the source of misery, and not enjoyment, and hence are compared to evil.)
(NOTE: aatth = eight; pehar = a unit of time in Hindu culture, approximately equal to three hours, there are eight ‘pehar’ in a day; sharan = refuge, protection; parwaase = same as ‘bharose’; panch = five; dusht = evil; saadh = literal meaning is practice, in context means to control through practice)

Gyaan dhyaan kichh karm na jaanaa,
Saar na jaanaa teri
Sab te waddaa Satgur Nanak,
Jin kal raakhi meri

I am a lowly seeker, bereft of any knowledge, or practice of meditation
And my deeds and action are not pure
I do not understand the essence of Your truth and glory
All I know that there is none who is greater than Satguru Nanak
He protects my honor, and keeps my failings a secret
(NOTE: saar = essence; waddaa = big, same as ‘badaa’; kal = relief, comfort)
