SUNSET, sunset, burning bright
In the beginning of the night,
What immortal flame or ray
Could catch the horizon's symmetry?

In what distant land or skies
Set the fire to my own eyes?
On what clouds dare ye hold?
To what extent is your fire bold?

And what Goddess and what art
Could twist the strings of my heart?
And when my heart begins to beat,
What warms my hands and warms my feet?

Where the ending? Where the start?
In what century was thy beautiful art?
What has heat? What hope cling
Dare its lovely warmth spring?

Whe the stars threw down their spears,
And watered Heaven with their tears,
Did He smile His work to see?
Did He who make the lamb make thee?

Sunset, sunset, burning bright
In the Beginning of the night,
What immortal flame or ray
Dare frame thy beautiful symmetry?
