Tears, my dear, my near,
My guide, my philosopher,
My never failing friend,
My greatest treasure.
In pain you appear,
In strain you appear;

My vision becomes clear
After you disappear;
Why are you occasional?
And why not perpetual?
I will send you pain
I will extend strain;
Under pleasure, praise,
