If when you read this
And I cease to exist
You must know by now
I was Ruler of Mount Everest
With her sheer magnificence
And snow-capped mist
I bred her to life
I was Father of Mount Everest
"You are my rock, you are my shrine!"
To proclaim it aloud was to make her mine
She belonged to me and no other man
She was born and she was raised in the palm of my hand
Heavy was my love
Like the weight of her foundation
She never could hurt
She was my unfaltering safe haven
And now that I am gone
I leave her to the world
No longer my servant
She is free, she is unfurled
It was the last time I saw her
That her peak I did kiss
Search atop that great mountain
And you will find me, Ruler of Mount Everest
