Anorexia

She walked to the mirror
Cold and bare
Touching her thin and brittle hair
As she looked at herself,
At the girl staring back
Tears filled her eyes with shame and regret
The truth was
She was skinny
Skinny as can be
But she wasn't happy
And she wouldn't eat
She starved to be small
Starved to see
Her definition of skinny
Which was too obscene
She didn't recover
Anorexia had taken over
The voice in her head
Made her sober
The words pounded in her mind
They repeated each day
They made her suffer
In that helpless state
She became too weak
Became too faint
Became too isolated
Came to shame
If she had gotten help
If people could've seen
The real her
She might still be
She walks away from the mirror
Cold and bare
Touching her thin and brittle hair
