Stress can be described as a condition that tends to hamper the normal physical and mental state of a human being, irrespective of age and sex. Stress normally occurs when a person has to deal with nonstop changes in everyday life such as work pressure, family tension, trauma, health problems, traffic snarls and so on. Barring few cases, the occurrence of stress is generally related to negative conditions times. In extreme cases, doctors claim it to give rise to a number of health complications / illnesses.

Here are some common health problems that are said to accrue directly or indirectly from stress:

Headache - Stress can cause mild to severe headaches in human beings. It, however, may or may not occur at the time while one is experiencing a headache. Since stress has a tendency to accumulate, it can very well have an aftereffect on a person who has gone through a stressful situation in the form of a headache. Headaches caused by stress usually abate once a person’s taken an over-the-counter medication.

Sleep Problems – Stress can disrupt the normal sleeping pattern of a person. This is because the mind of the particular person facing a stressful situation will be continuously thinking of ways to solve his /her problem. In such a situation one will either find it really difficult to temporarily forget the problem and get back to sleep or wake up with a start between bouts of restive drowsiness at night.

Tiredness Feeling continuously tired is one major fallout of stress. Since the mind will be working non-stop and cannot find rest when stressed, you will be unable to nap properly and as a result, feel drained or exhausted physically as well. Incase you are undergoing severe fatigue or tiredness, consult your doctor immediately. Meditation works wonders for some people.

Overeating or Loss of Appetite This may sound funny, but it is true. Stress can make a person overeat or lose appetite badly. This happens when the body is too tensed and not recognizing right indications of hunger or disregarding signals that tells a person when to eat and when to stop eating. Stress can also make a person to overeat and as a result, have stomachaches.

Sour Stomach A lot of people undergoing stress complain of a sour stomach. This is because the body of the person hikes up the amount of acid emission during stress. And this results in health problems like sour stomach or gas. When this particular ailment prolongs over a long time sometimes it takes the form of ulcers.

Backaches Apart from the incorrect sitting or standing posture, stress is another reason for the cause of backaches in people. In a way both these conditions are inter-related because strict work deadlines often cause people to sit stiffly in a bad posture over a long time period causing backaches. A person stooping while working infront of a computer, for instance, is very common.

Stiff Neck Tightening of neck muscles during a prolonged stressful situation is a very common ailment. The neck and shoulder portion of a person is very vulnerable to pain from overuse or stress-caused-tension. At times, the stiff neck problem gets so worse that one is simply unable to move one’s neck freely without causing pain.
There are numerous health problems in human beings that are known to occur from stress. Apart from the ones mentioned above, other health problems are colds or the flu, pain in the jaw, panic attacks depression, hyper tension, anger, increased blood pressure, raised cholesterol, heart disease, cancer and so on.
