Amritsar December 29:
The Shriomani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC), the supreme temporal body of the Sikhs, declared that a believer can not be a true Sikh, though born in a Sikh family, if one trims hair and beard.
Men or women with trimmed hair, moustaches and beard are neither Sikh nor Sehajdari Sikh, (not baprised), though born in a Sikh family, SGPC chief Avtar Singh Makkar told a press conference. The declaration was an attempt to put to rest all the controversies regarding the definition of a Sikh.
Men and women, who are baptised and recite Sikh religious scripture with discipline, fall in the category of Amritdhari (baptized) Sikh, who are eligible to contest SGPC election and hold religious posts. Non-baptised men and women with un-cut hair and follow the rest of the Sikh tenets fall in the category of Sehajdari Sikh, who are not eligible to contest SGPC election and hold religious posts.
They would be, however, eligible to caste votes in the SGPC general election as per the SGPC Act. Sehajdhari Sikh includes people born in a Sikh family but not adhering to Sikh way of life and symbols. They should recite "moolamantra" path and abstain from liquor, cigar and 'Halal' meat, Makkar added.

One can be of any religion as long as you follow it. Of course Sikhi says to not trim your hair but what about the people that have rumaals and go to gurudwaras? Are they not Sikh? They wish to be Sikh but wish not to keep their hair for whatever reasons. It may be disrespectful to the other real Sikhs but that's how things in the world are you know. Life goes on... :y

A lot of people wish to be Sikh and (apparently are) but cut their kesh and life is going on... >d

But I do admit a Sikh is defined by uncutten kesh undoubtedly. :y

If kesh are what defines a Sikhs then why there is no mention of that in SGGS.
Our Gurus said a lot of thing we do not adhere.
Guru Nanak said No Casteism - All Equal, then why most high caste 'True Sikhs' doesn't marry low caste 'true Sikhs'
Guru Gobind asked for 'Dasaundh', Do you know a Sikh who gives 10% of all his income to Guru Ghar ?

will finish this post later...........

Guru Nanak Devi Ji wrote "Those who share their honest earnings with needy, truly recognize the way (to god)" ang1245

When Guru Nanak Dev Ji started farming at Kartar Pur, near the end of their physical life, they use to divide the farm into 3 portions. 1 would go to 'Dharamsaal' (religious institutions), 1 for use by their family, and 3rd for the needy, hungry, and holy people.

Guru Ram Das Ji had appointed Masands (who later where excommunicated by Guru Gobind Singh Ji for misusing the panths money-similar to what lots of gurdwara commitees are doing today), they would collect offerings from devotees and bring it to Guru Ji who would spend the money for food and lodging for the sangat.

Guru Arjan Dev Ji said 1/10 of a persons income should be donated in the name of the Guru.

Historians havce written that governments might have difficulty collecting taxes, but Sikhs brought their daswand to the Guru with pleasure and enthusiasm.

Guru Arjun Dev Ji also said "those Sikhs who take out daswandh shall not have sloth in their homes"

Bhai Nand Lal Ji in Tankhaah Naama wrote "Any Sikh who gives daswandh out of his/her honest earnings will earn a good name in the world"

Bhai Daya Singh Ji wrote in rehitnama "A Sikh should share his earnings with otehrs, help fulfill the needs of others and give daswandh for the Guru; by doing so he will suceed in all his efforts in life"

In Prem Sumaarage it is written "The essentials of ethical code (for Sikhs) are - do not inflict pain on anyone; do not give personal secret to each and everyone except your Guru and close friend; always work honestly and whatever you earn by Guru's grace, keep the daswandh out of it for God and spend it on charitable projects.

SGPC can go to hell :)

Sikh Gurdwara Prabhandak Clowns it appears need
a lesson in the Guru Granth...

Kabeer ji had a nice way of saying a lot in few simple words....
"kabeer preeti ik siau keey aan dubhidhaa jaai;
bhaavey laambe kes karu bhaavey gharari mundaai"
(Kabir, when you are in love with the One God, duality and alienation depart.
You may have long hair, or you may shave your head bald.)
-- KABIR Source: Adi Granth, p. 1365

Thanks
