The story is told differently but yes that's how the real Guru was said to be identified from lot of importers.

But there is some alternate theory, I'd like to know

According to the story, Guru ji stated the exact amount.
Out of 26 , Guru Teg Bahadur Ji was picked by the word of Makhan Shah.

Also Guru Har Krishan ji , before dying mentioning that next Guru is in Bakala is'nt 'Chamatkaar' :-?

That was the story told to people at the time to legitimize Guru Teg Bahadur Ji's succession.

It was either Chamatkaar or a plot, I'd take the Chamatkar, u can take your pick
