The Battle of Amritsar took place between Guru HarGobind Ji and the forces of the Mughal army on June 5, 1628 (22 of Jeth, in Bikrami 1685). Emperor Jahangir had died in 1627 and his son Shah Jahan had become his successor. Adding to Shah Jahan's worries over the increasing influence and power of the Sikhs, those who harboured ill-will against the Sikhs renewed their conspiracies and incited him to turn against Guru Ji.

The Battle of Hargobindpur was, the second battle in which Guru Hargobindand his Sikh Risaldari (comrades), fought the forces of Abdullah Khan the Mughal governor, (Subedar) of Jalandhar. This historic war happened in September 1629 (according to some chronicles 1628). The battle was fought near the village of Ruhela where Guru Hargobind and his warriors defeated the Mughal force commanded by Turkish chieftains and the governor Abdullah Khan. After the victory the area in which the battle was fought became the town of Sri Hargobindpur.

The Battle of Gurusar was the third battle fought by Guru Har Gobind ji near Mehrajwith Lala Beg and Qamar Beg in 1631. In this battle the Mughals were defeated very badly. The battle was fought during winter season and Guru ji's forces were 4000 in number whereas the Mughals were 35,000 in number. Guru ji pre-planned everything and was ready for battle on the other hand, the Mughals had not planned well for the battle, because they were not fully acquainted to the conditions of that area. According to Piara Singh Padam, the battle took place in 1634 but according to Giani Gian Singh the battle occured in 1631; this date appears to be more acceptable.

The Battle of Kartarpur was caused by the Pathan Painde Khan who had been a loyal friend and supporter of the Guru. Turning against the Guru he first went to the Subedar of Jullundhur, Qutab Khan, who accompanied him to the Court of the Emperor who despatched a strong force against the Guru. Kale Khan, the brother of Mukhlis Khan, was given the command of fifty thousand men. Qutab Khan, Painde Khan, Anwar Khan and Asman Khan were commissioned to fight under Kale Khan.

The Battle of Kiratpur was the final skirmish fought between the rulers of Ropar and Guru Hargobind ji. The battle preceding Battle of Padiala.
