Ingredients
1/2 cup shortening
1/2 cup sugar
2 eggs beaten
2 1/2 cup all purpose flour
1 1 /2 tsp soda
1/2 tsp salt
1 tsp ginger
1 tsp cinnamon
1 1/2 cup Steen's syrup or cane syrup
1 cup boiling water
1 cup nuts - optional
Directions
Cream the shortening and sugar until fluffy. Add eggs, the flour, salt, ginger and cinnamon. Alternate with syrup and water. Add chopped nuts if desired. Beat enough to mix thoroughly. Pour into a well buttered pan and bake at 350 degrees for 45 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the cake comes out clean.
