Mid-Century-Inspired Meyerhofer Residence Respecting Neighbors’ Views

Glendale-based studio Osborn Architects captured bright sunlight through dark frames in a warm wood environment – this constructed a dream home you can draw inspiration from. The Meyerhofer Residence in La Cañada, California, was completely renovated to suit the actual needs of its inhabitants. Basing the concept on a reinterpretation of the old, mid-century-inspired beloved house, architects redesigned the built structure and surrounding landscape. Taking into account neighboring houses, the views concentrate of offering glimpses on the surroundings and block indiscreet eyes, as well as maintain the views captured by neighbor’s houses. So the roof was kept low out of respect for nearby properties, creating a structure that combines stone, wood, steel and glass into a fascinating set of interiors. “The final design weaves together interior and exterior living spaces, maximizing access to the entire site. The house was set deeper into the sloping landscape, and usable grade was expanded around the structure. The pool area was tucked into a contained “grotto” bounded on two sides by the residence’s structure: on one side by the uphill property and, to the west, an opaque fence and landscape buffer.”
