The Tata Nano diesel has been spied testing in Banglore. While the car has no visible signs showing it’s a diesel, the person took the pictures confirmed that the car’s engine gave out the distinct diesel clatter. It has been well over five years since it was launched for the Indian market as the cheapest car money can but has not performed as per expectations. Now it seems Tata is taking step to make its presence felt once again in the sub Rs 3.5 Lakh category which has cars like the Hyundai Eon, the Alto 800 as well as the Alto itself as well as give the Nano a second lease on life.

The Tata Nano diesel will be powered by a sub one-litre diesel mill which is expected to produce a little less than 50bhp and a decent amount of torque of which the latter should make driving easier when the car is loaded up. To keep the cost down, Tata is expected to use an improved version of the transmission from the Ace pickup truck.
In terms of overall changes, we expect that Tata might revise the bumpers and some of the interior styling but will keep the same familiar design of the car. We can also expect that the features offered special edition Nano, that was launched a few months, will become standard equipment on the higher end variants.
