Peugeot 3008 HYbrid4: World’s first diesel-powered hybrid coming next year


Announced by Peugeot at the Geneva Motor Show 2010 what it calls to be the first diesel-powered hybrid, 3008 HYbrid4 isn’t just a concept for auto shows, but will hit the markets in 2011. Also, the first vehicle in the French automaker’s lineup to feature this new powertrain set-up, the diesel powered hybrid will be equipped with a 2.0 liter HDi diesel engine that produces 163bhp and 300Nm of torque, powering the front wheels. There is an electric motor mounted on the rear excel that powers the back wheels and add additional 37bhp and 200nm of torque, taking the total output tally to 200bhp and 500 Nm of torque.

Featuring a 6-speed manual gearbox (BMP6), the driver of the 3008 HYbrid4 can choose between four driving modes: Auto mode, ZEV mode, Four-wheel drive mode, and a Sport mode. In auto mode, the vehicle is fully controlled by its computers; in the ZEV mode the car is in the all-electric mode, the Four-wheel drive mode instructs both power trains to operate together as far as possible and in Sport mode favors quicker gear changes at higher engine speeds than normal mode.
The other prominent features include the stop-start system, the kinetic energy recovery system, and a electronic control unit that manages the various modes of the diesel engine and electric motor working together. Vehicle’s fuel economy is a spare 3.8 liters/100 km and its CO2 emissions rating is a very green 99 g/km - solid credentials for a crossover/SUV model that will make it one of the most competitive vehicles in its segment. The 3008 Hybrid4 will hit the European markets by next spring. No pricing details are available at this juncture.
