Skoda has released the first interior shot of its new Superb, which will make its debut later this month. It is also set to appear at the Geneva motor show in March. The Czech carmaker states that its aim was to “create a superior inner space, with a more modern, elegant and sophisticated look”.

The image reveals leather seats, a touchscreen display with sat-nav, a refreshed centre console equipped with Skoda's DSG dual-clutch gearbox and a newly-designed steering wheel with mounted controls.

Measuring 20mm longer and 50mm wider than the outgoing car, the new Superb offers improved torsional rigidity and a kerb weight that's claimed to be 75kg lighter than that of its predecessor. In international markets, powering the new Superb will be a range of engines, ranging from a 1.4-litre turbocharged petrol with 123bhp to a 2.0-litre unit with 276bhp. Three diesel engines, with up to 188bhp, will also be available with the option of both two and four-wheel drive.

This new Superb is expected to hit Indian shores towards the end of 2015. When it does though, power is expected to come from a 2.0-litre diesel motor tuned for around 170bhp or the 1.8-litre 177bhp turbo-petrol engine. The current automatic DSG gearboxes are expected to be retained
