Maruti Suzuki had launched their Crossover SUV, the S-Cross, last year to compete against the likes of the Duster and later on the Hyundai Creta. It seems that the pricing strategy was a little off the mark and had to be realigned to ensure better sales. Maruti has slashed the prices of the S-Cross by as much as Rs 55,000 for the base 1.3 variant to Rs 2.05 lakh for the top-spec 1.6-litre variant.
Maruti Suzuki has managed to sell close to 17,000 units of the S-Cross, 90 per cent of which are the 1.3-litre DDiS 200 variants. Also, despite the Maruti badge, the S-Cross has not been selling as per expectations with dealers offering discounts up to Rs 1 lakh for more than a month now. The limited reach of the Nexa network may have been a reason for the limited market penetration. This may improve over time as Nexa dealerships have already touched the 100 mark and are growing at a good pace.
The Base 1.3 Sigma which was priced at Rs 8.34 lakh before is now available at Rs 7.79 lakh. The Zeta and Delta, Zeta and Alpha variants of the 1.3 that used to cost Rs 9.15 lakh, 9.99 lakh and 10.75 lakh will now cost Rs 8.49 lakh, 9.59 lakh and 10.29 lakh. (All prices are ex-showroom, Delhi). The Zeta has the least discount which indicates that it was one of the most popular variants of the S-Cross on sale.
The 1.6-litre DDiD320 engine powered S-Cross that was priced from Rs 11.99 lakh now gets Rs 2.05 lakh price-cut. The Delta variant is now available at Rs 9.94 lakh while the Zeta costs Rs 10.94 lakh and the Alpha Rs 11.69 lakh as against the Rs 12.99 lakh and Rs 13.74 lakh ex-showroom, Delhi.
The new prices have been updated on Maruti Suzuki’s official Nexa website on which the car is listed.
