For 2008, changes to the ZZR1400's engine and exhaust system ensure that strict Euro-III emissions regulations are met. Through efforts to also reduce mechanical noise, power drops were not only minimised, overall engine character was improved and peak power was actually increased! Key ZZR1400 features: · Massive power and torque care of the mighty 1,352 cm3 In-Line Four engine. · Superb stability and reflexive handling care of the well-balanced aluminium monocoque frame. middot; High controllability and feedback from the 43 mm inverted fork and fully adjustable Uni-Trak rear suspension. · Phenomenal stopping power and feel care of triple petal disc brakes, radial-mount front brake calipers and radial-pump master cylinder. · Flagship ride quality thanks to sculpted ergonomics and a relaxed sport riding position. middot; Palpable aura emanating from the distinctive, avant-garde styling. The 2008 ZZR1400 retains all these great features, plus maintains its great driveability. Overall, the ZZR1400's total potential is increased. Emissions and noise levels are lower, peak power is higher, the mid-range hit is smoother and low-end torque has been increased.

CLEANER EMISSIONS. MORE POWER. After ensuring Euro-III regulations were met, changes to the engine ensured the best balance for improved power characteristics and meeting noise regulations. The result is an engine with the same great driveablility, a higher peak power, more linear mid-range and stronger low end. * Intake porting was revised to provide optimum flow characteristics. * Fine-atomising injectors with droplet size of 75 µ increase the lateral spray angle from 15o to 20o, dispersing atomised fuel over a wider area. * Internal construction of the silencers was revised. Capacity ratio of the first and third chambers was adjusted, as were the lengths of the pipes projecting from the baffle plates. * Entrances to the connecting pipes (joining header pipes 1-4 and 2-3) were enlarged approximately 75% to compensate for the new collector shape (revised with the addition of the third honeycomb catalyser). This change in particular resulted in enhanced torque characteristics, especially in the low rpm range. * Emissions and noise levels clear regulations for all markets, allowing almost the same power and torque performance for all markets (except France). * Revised piston profiles contribute to reduced mechanical noise. * Urethane sheet added to the inside of the magnesium chain cover also helps reduce mechanical noise. Reduced mechanical noise. Meeting Euro-III exhaust emission regulations OTHER CHANGES FOR 08MY * Forming the cast aluminium sections of the main frame to which the rear frame is mounted using a die casting process instead of gravity casting results in slightly lighter parts, contributing to weight savings. Chassis Fine-tuned power characteristics By reducing mechanical noise, sacrifices to engine power could be minimised. (Reducing mechanical noise in other areas means less exhaust noise reduction is necessary - and consequently the exhaust system can be tuned for greater power.) NEW FEATURE DETAILS * In addition to the already existing honeycomb catalysers (one in each silencer), a third honeycomb catalyser was added in the collector. * European models also feature an O2 sensor that measures oxygen density in the exhaust and gives feedback to the ECU. The ECU adjusts the volume of fuel being introduced by the fine atomising injectors, making the fuel-air mixture leaner or richer as necessary, to ensure optimal combustion for clean emissions. * In order to be able to take into account feedback from the O2 sensor, the ECU is new. * The cylinder head and cylinder head cover have larger secondary air ports (increased approximately 20%), making it easier to get more air into the exhaust system. * The Air Switching Valve (ASV) can also handle approximately 5% more air. Also, Kawasaki made some changes to the engine and minimised the mechanical noises, allowing the engine to be better and more powerfull at the top rev range. The torque was also incrased at low and mid rev range. The comparison between the two big monsters of the category that are Hayabusa and ZZR 1400 is very attractive... More detailed information will be provided on September 27th, at the Kawasaki World Press Conference, which is to be held at Equinoxe, Paris. Invitations for this event have been sent. Using the engine as a stressed frame member also saves approximately four pounds - Engine positioned forward in the frame, and the wheelbase and front/rear weight balance were carefully designed to achieve high-speed stability and responsive handling - Massive head pipe casting contributes to frame rigidity - Houses the air box and air filter in a space-saving design that actually simplifies air cleaner maintenance. Two screws hold a plate on the left side of the frame that allows air cleaner access - Battery is also housed within the frame and has simple access through the back side of the frame Inverted 43mm Cartridge Type Front Fork - Damping rates offer stiff initial action to resist front-end dive when braking - Stepless damping adjustment improves suspension performance Bottom-Link Uni-Trak® Rear Suspension - Linkage rates provide linear suspension action - Bottom-link design concentrates the weight lower in the chassis for a lower center of gravity, which makes the motorcycle more nimble Radial Mounted Petal Front Disc Brakes - Radial mounted four-piston front brake calipers utilize integrated mounting points at both the top and bottom of the caliper, with the mounting bolts inserted through the rear of the caliper instead of the side/front. This makes the caliper more rigid, which improves brake feel over a wider range of operation - A separate brake pad is used for each piston. Individual pads provide increased cooling efficiency and can absorb more heat without deforming so they maintain consistent brake feel stop after stop - Petal design brake discs provide better cooling and warp resistance - Radial-pump front brake master cylinder improves brake performance and lever feel - Wheel rims feature center ribs which are slightly offset so tire balance weights can be located precisely along the wheel’s centerline.
