The issue of privacy is being featured heavily this year with large companies like Facebook already being dragged over the coals regarding their privacy policies. Recently Microsoft was also scrutinized as people were finding that their Windows 7 mobile phones were using a lot of extra data and nobody could explain why.
Well it seems that Microsoft has confirmed that some – but necessarily all – of its Windows 7 phones were sending and receiving phantom data. The issue was caused by a 3rd party service which leads to the question what data was the 3rd party actually sending and receiving?
According to the BBC, most of the complaints were based on devices running on the AT&T network. However, Microsoft also believe that there could be another issue causing the problem, but remarkably they do know who the initial third party is and are looking to help them with any necessary fixes.
Hmmm, sounds a little iffy to me, but as the third party is also working on fixes it could just well be a one-off, after all most new phones have problems when they first start, but with all the hype over privacy these days it does sound a little too convenient to blame it on some third party bug.
