Telenor launches 4G in Ranchi, starts offering 1GB at Rs 148 and 2GB at Rs 248

After successful launch of 4G service in six cities, Telenor India has extended its 4G service by launching in Ranchi, Bihar. Telenor’s ultra affordable 4G service is currently available in cities of Lucknow, Anand, Agra, Amravati, Visakhapatnam and Varanasi. With launch of 4G service in Ranchi, Telenor’s 4G service is now available in at least one city in six circles Telenor currently have operation.


Telenor’s 4G plans in Ranchi is same as with other 4G cities. 1GB 4G data comes at a cost of just Rs 149 and 2GB 4G data at Rs 249 with 28 days validity. Customers will also get reduced call rate of 25 p/min for local calls as well as STD calls on recharging with these 4G packs. Apart from above 4G packs, the company has also introduced 4G trial pack priced at Rs 11 offering 100MB 4G data valid for single day.

The customers can check if their device is capable for 4G by sending an SMS to 59799 with details like make, space, and model. The new customers can visit Telenor Store to grab a Telenor 4G SIM and set 4G/LTE as the network mode in the device’s settings. Dial to the toll-free number 1925 and select option 1 or simply type “START” and SMS it to 1925 to activate data service.

For existing customers, type 4G space SIM No. (of new 4G blank sim)and SMS it to the toll-free number 59111 from your existing SIM and mobile number. Once the current SIM gets disconnected, insert the new Telenor 4G SIM in your 4G handset’s SIM slot. Change the settings to 4G on device.

Even though Telenor 4G on narrow band LTE is not able to match speeds offered by other 4G operators, the affordable data packs and 3G like speed has gained high popularity. However, there are reports that Vodafone India is in talks to acquire Telenor in a bid to increase its 4G spectrum holdings. Vodafone currently has 4G spectrum in only five circles, as compared to Idea’s holdings in 10 circles and Airtel and Reliance Jio’s pan-India footprint.
