Sony PlayStation Now announced for PS4, PS3, PlayStation Vita and more
t seems like the PlayStation 4 is not the most important part of Sony’s new gaming strategy anymore. Today at CES 2014, the company has announced its new service called as Playstation Now which will stream PlayStation games not only to PS4, but also PS3, PlayStation Vita, television, tablets and Smartphones. It will also support online multiplayer, messages and trophies.
Thanks to Gaikai for this service, which was purchased by Sony in June 2012. The company already revealed that it would bring PS3 games to PS4 and PS Vita later this year. PlayStation Now was demonstrated at this year’s CES in Las Vegas, where attendees were able to play the popular The Last of Us title.
It will also allow users to easily rent a game or even pay for a subscription for exploring more titles. Sony says the a closed beta service will launch in the United States at the end of this month and by the end of this summer, it will be rolling out globally.
Gaikai service works on every device as the games don’t actually run locally on your device. The cloud gaming service work very similar to YouTube, where powerful servers in remote data centers actually run the games and stream compress video frames of that game to your device. They also send the input from your game controller or even touchscreen to the cloud, so that it can respond to your click.
The PlayStation Now service will be firstly coming to PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 3, and after that it will come to the PlayStation Vita handheld. According to Sony most of the 2014 US models of Sony Bravia TVs will be compatible with PlayStation Now.
