Sony appears to be expanding upon its 4K line up of products. In April, the brand had taken the wraps off its first 4K projector in India and if a recent report is anything to go by, then it appears that the brand is aiming to expand on their 4K line up and launch a super large LCD TV that will be unveiled at the IFA 2012 event.

A report by CNET states, “The source, who spoke on condition of anonymity, confirmed to CNET that the upcoming 84-inch TV can display a massive 4096 x 3072 resolution (four times the number of pixels in a conventional 1080p set), also known in the industry as 4K. We learned that the 84-inch Sony TV features a side-lit LCD panel (think thin) and removable speakers. In terms of design, our source describes the aesthetics as a reimagined retro-style appearance with a modern twist.”

Getting ready to launch a super sized TV

The brand appears to be taking all its products to this new resolution and as mentioned earlier, have already raised the curtain on a 4K home theatre projector, VPL-VW1000ES, priced at Rs. 13.99 lakhs. The brand claims that this 3D-capable digital projector can display 4K images that provide home entertainment enthusiasts with a more immersive, engaging visual experience with over four times the resolution of Full HD.

Commenting on the launch of the 4K projector, Mr. Munetaka Satoru, Deputy General Manager, Professional Solution Division, Sony India, had said, “Sony continues to push the boundaries of high resolution entertainment; from the lens to the living room. Our new VPL-VW1000ES 4K home theatre projector has been created to not just meet, but exceed the needs of the most discerning and demanding home entertainment enthusiasts. It will allow them to become totally immersed in the viewing experience with the action unfolding before their eyes in a new level of realism, with colours and details unlike anything seen before in home entertainment.”

In addition to supporting 4K native resolution, the VPL-VW1000ES projector also features Sony’s exclusive Super Resolution 4K upscaler called ‘Reality Creation’ that aims to enhance content such as SD or HD, 2D or 3D – to higher definition true 4K (DCI Format: 4096 x 2160p) picture signals.

The VPL-VW1000ES also features a built-in IR transmitter for Full 4K 3D, which drives the projector’s TDG-PJ1 USB-chargeable active shutter 3D glasses and picture position memory which memorises the position of the zoom lens. Apart from the above mentioned features, it also supports 2D and 3D anamorphic films.

The VPL-VW1000ES offers a variety of installation options, including dual triggers, a 2.1 motorised zoom, expanded throw distances, an RS232 interface, control over IP and compatibility with virtually every home automation integrator.

We can be sure that the yet unannounced 4K 84-inch LCD TV will sport a plethora of features that will definitely wow any potential consumer. With the television set to be announced at IFA, we can expect to know when the television will be commercially available and at what price.
