The iPad may be the new gadget on the block with e-reader capabilities, but that hasn’t stopped other manufacturers announcing new products. If all you want is a device that acts as an e-book reader, then you are going to have an increasing number of gadgets to choose from over the next year as manufacturers fight for your dollars.
The latest device we have heard about is called the R7 and is being released by Smart Devices. Very little is known about the device other than it’s got a 7-inch resistive touchscreen, 800×600 resolution, and 4:3 aspect ratio. It also sports 16 million colors making it suitable for displaying more than just your average novel. That means no e-ink display, however.
Looking at the image above you can see it’s got quite a clean look, with four buttons on the front and likely a storage option hidden on the side of the casing.
No release date or price has been announced yet, but we hope this is arriving soon, and for significantly less than a Kindle or iPad.
