Back in December, we reported to you the interesting story of a university professor by the name of Wafaa Bilal. Bilal, who teaches photography at NYU, had a fascinating idea to capture photos of the world around him. His idea was to have a titanium plate surgically installed into the back of his head where he would attach a camera. This camera would constantly take pictures and they would be posted to a website over the course of a year.
Sadly for Bilal, his project, 3rdi, caused him pain after a few months as one of the titanium posts attached to his head started to be rejected by his body. Even after treatment with steroids and antibiotics, the resulting infection caused him to have the offending post removed.
This does not mean the end of the 3rdi project as Bilal still has the camera, though it is now strapped to his head rather than affixed to it. But it seems Bilal’s cyborg days may be over.
