Seagate has announced the world's fastest 2.5-inch Momentus XT laptop hard drive. Asus' new Republic of Gamers (ROG) G73Jh notebook will come loaded with Momentus XT hard drive. This new Seagate Momentus XT hybrid hard drive for laptops promises to deliver Solid State Drive like performance and has best of both worlds (SSD-HDD) features. This hybrid HDD runs 80 percent faster than traditional 7200 RPM drives.
New Seagate Momentus XT is a 2.5-inch HDD that has SLC-based solid state drive and has 32MB DDR3 memory cache. This HDD has traditional platters for maximum storage (250GB, 320GB or 500GB) along with small SLC-based internal SSDs for faster access speeds. The Adaptive Memory technology moves the frequently used information to the flash memory for faster access.
Due to the 4GB SLC-NAND SSD inside, this Momentus XT drive boots up OS 100 times faster than the 5400 RPM HDDs. The platter has 7200RPM spindle speed and offers 3 Gb/s with Native Command Queuing.
This solid state hybrid drive will be used in Asus ROG G73Jh notebook that has Intel Core i7-720QM mobile processor with 8GB DDR3 RAM and ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5870 graphics inside.
Seagate has also extended the portfolio of its mainstream Momentus drive with 750GB capacity HDD spinning at 7200 RPMs and has 16MB cache.
