Samsung USB 3.0 external drive offers 10x the speed of USB 2

If you are looking for an ultra fast external hard drive then you may want to take a peek at the latest addition to Samsung’s STORY Station product line. The first thing that will stand out is the new 3.5-inch hard drive, the Samsung STORY Station 3.0, uses the SuperSpeed USB 3.0 interface. This means the drive will offer a maximum transfer rate of 5Gbps. That is ten times the speed of a USB 2.0 drive which offers a transfer speed of only 480Mbps. To put that in perspective the drive is capable of transferring an HD Movie in 2.3 minutes.
As with all USB 3.0 devices, the hard drive is still backward compatible with USB 2.0 and 1.1 interfaces.
Besides being fast the hard drive, is also secure. The STORY Station 3.0 drive comes preloaded with SecretZone and SafetyKey for data encryption and password protection. Those using the drive for backups will be able to take advantage of the Samsung Auto Backup software which is also preloaded.
The drive will come in sizes of 1TB and 2TB and though the Samsung press release says the drive is now available globally, the Pocket-lint website reports that it will initially be available in Korea with availability in other countries later this month.
Not only does the hard drive contain a ton of space and head-turning data transfer speeds, you have to admit it looks good. The grey brushed aluminum casing with the logo in red gives a nice retro look.
