Samsung recently announced the launch of the Galaxy Note 800, also known as the Note 10.1, extending the Galaxy Note category. Samsung claims that the tablet delivers the functionality and precision of pen and paper by combining the S Pen with a 10.1-inch large display. Adobe’s premium creative application, Photoshop Touch is preloaded and optimised for Samsung’s S Pen. The device also introduces the Multi-screen feature, which allows users to operate two different apps side-by-side, simultaneously, on the same screen.

At the occasion of the launch of the Galaxy Note 800, Ranjit Yadav, Country Head, Samsung Mobile & IT said, “India is one of the first 10 markets in the world where the Galaxy Note 800 is being launched. With the Samsung Galaxy Note 800, Samsung provides a unique user experience that goes beyond passive content consumption to a new world of productivity, active creation and personalized communications. While the S pen offers both active content creation and passive content creation, the Multi screen capability finally enables true multitasking. I expect this device to in many ways to fuel the growth of the tablet market in India and help us further strengthen our market leadership in the tablet market here in India”.

With the Multi-screen feature, users can view webpages and videos, or launch other applications while writing or sketching ideas with the S Pen on the other half of the screen. They do not need to toggle back and forth between apps. Further, users can even capture and crop images from an app on one side, and drag them to an app on the side.

Apps supported by Multi-screen are S Note, Internet Browser, Video Player, Email, Gallery, and Polaris Office. The Galaxy Note 800 also offers the Pop up Play feature, first introduced on the Galaxy S III Smartphone. With it, users can playback videos in a floating window that can be overlaid anywhere on the screen, providing a “picture in picture” experience. New for the Galaxy Note 800 is the ability to adjust the size of the video window.

In addition, the Galaxy Note 800 offers a mini apps-tray that can launch a selection of mini-apps on top of other apps that can be freely moved around the screen. These include Alarm, S Note, Music Player, Email, Calculator and World Clock.

The S Pen with 1,024 levels of pressure sensitivity is embedded directly into a slot in the device. When removed, it activates a taskbar with access to apps optimised for the S Pen, such as S Note, Adobe Photoshop Touch, and Polaris Office. Alternatively, users can easily set their preferred application to be launched instantly.

The S Note application is a unique tool that gives users the ability to combine notes and sketches with other digital content in ready-to-use templates. Shape Match converts hand-drawn shapes such a square and lines into clean versions, this can be ideal for creating charts. Formula Match can solve formulae hand-written with the S Pen. In the Adobe Photoshop Touch application, users are able to control brush size and opacity by adjusting the pressure of the pen on the screen.

Users can also use popular Photoshop features such as layers, selection tools, adjustments, and filters to create images, or use the camera to fill an area on a layer with the unique camera fill feature. With Photoshop Touch, it’s also possible to add or remove people or objects from a photo, or blend two photos together.

Photoshop Touch is integrated with Adobe Creative Cloud providing users free access to file syncing and sharing features and 2GB of storage space. Files can be synced with the cloud and opened in Photoshop on the desktop or laptop for further editing.

S Note is also integrated with knowledge search engines so that users can search for content, obtain information, and easily drag and drop content onto S Notes without having to switch between screens.

My Education is a new app featured on the Galaxy Note 800, which has been developed to help school students to take advantage of the innovative and interactive digital environment that they are constantly experiencing. The app offers more than 10,000 free videos curated by teachers, and is the largest collection of educational videos mapped to the Indian curriculum. These videos are relevant for all students from Class I to XII. The app also offers more than 800 education text books, which would be the largest collection of educational e-books in India. Students can also access assessment papers and can take assessments on real time basis, which helps them in monitoring their own progress. Samsung goes on to state that beyond e-books and tests, students can access education related news as well on the Galaxy Note 800. This includes board exam results, scholarships, and admission dates. Students can even get a directory of schools and colleges and locate them based on their own location.

The Galaxy Note 800 is powered by a 1.4GHz quad-core processor, and 2GB of internal RAM. Samsung claims that multi-tasking, high-standard graphics, and fast performance without any lag are essential features of Galaxy Note 800. The device also includes a 5-megapixel main camera and a 1.9-megapixel front-facing camera.

The Galaxy Note 800 carries over several features first introduced with the hit Galaxy S III smartphone. The Smart Stay feature that was first introduced with the Galaxy S III, uses the camera in the Galaxy Note 800 to prevent the device from going into standby mode while it can detect a user in front of the device.

With AllShare Play, users can share content with a large group in real-time by connecting Galaxy Note 800 to Samsung HDTVs, phones, mobile tablets, laptops, and other consumer electronic devices on the same network.

The Galaxy Note 800 is priced in India at Rs. 39,990 and the accessories that are being made available in the market for the tablet include the desktop dock, pouch, book cover, Wacom pen, Car charger, stylus pen and an HDTV Adaptor.
