As you know that the Indian government has announced official symbol for Indian currency, the Indian Rupee (INR). The problem with the rupee symbol is that the rupee symbol character is currently not unicoded and it may take more than 2 years to work it properly. Till then, there is a trick to get rupee symbol in your documents. Here is that:

Well, the trick is simple! You need to download and install a font, Rupee Font, and you will be able to use the new symbol.


After installing the font (.ttf file), try it by opening a new word document (or any other word processor) by typing the grave accent symbol – ` (the key just above "tab" button in your keyboard). Moreover, this is a true type font and hence you can print the documents with the rupee character. But, this will not work on the computers without this font. So, if you are emailing the document to your friends – they will not be able to see the rupee symbol.

Install the font or simply copy and paste into the font folder. Windows Vista and Windows 7 users can right click and install the font. Once installed you can using it by selecting the font to Rupee and use the ` key to get the symbol on the page.
