Although Infinity Ward was responsible for one of the best-selling game titles in history with Modern Warfare 2, the departure of studio founders Vince Zampella and Jason West — alongside the open defection of many other important members of the Call of Duty making studio — have raised a lot of doubts about whether or not Infinity Ward themselves were in any position to helm the eagerly anticipated Modern Warfare 3.
The answer seems to be no, not really, if the latest news is anything to go by: Activision has just pulled in two other development studios to help Infinity Ward out on Modern Warfare 3.
According to the LA Times, Raven Software and Sledgehammer Games have been called on the Batphone to help Infinity Ward out on Modern Warfare 3. Adding insult to injury, Sledgehammer Games was apparently working on their own Call of Duty spin-off which they had to shelf entirely to help out Infinity Ward.
The LA Times’ intel says that Sledgehammer Games will be helping Infinity Ward put together the single player campaign while Raven will work with Infinity Ward’s remaining team members on multiplayer. It’s not official news by any means until Activision announces it themselves, but Infinity Ward’s gone through a lot of trauma lately: I wouldn’t be surprised at all if this rumor ended up being accurate.
