Hours prior to Sony's Paris Games Week press conference, it has emerged that the Japan-based company will be floating an e-sports platform known as the PlayStation Plus League. The news comes via the discovery of a Sony website that features games like Battlefield Hardline, FIFA 16, and Ultra Street Fighter IV.

Tournaments for these games will take place during the year with different divisions to find opponents with the similar skill as you and seasons. According to the site, other games that will be a part of this include Driveclub, Mortal Kombat X, and Trials Fusion.

Real money seems to be a part of the PlayStation Plus League with a EUR 20,000 cash prize for what seems to be the inaugural tournament of the PlayStation Plus League and the Project Cars website stating that a monthly sum would be given to the top players in the league.

With Activision and Microsoft announcing their e-sports ambitions earlier in the year on the backs of games that are fit for competitive play such as Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 and Halo 5, it was only a matter of time before Sony put its hat in the ring. Barring Driveclub though, there's no representation of the company's first party lineup. No surprise given very little of what out exclusively on the PS4 fits the e-sports mould. We should see more information on this at Sony's press conference at Paris Games Week. How Sony plans to approach e-sports will be a point of interest in time to come.
