Looks like a laptop manufacturer has stolen Nvidia’s thunder in announcing a successor to the 280M mobile graphics chip. Eurocom has started listing a GeForce GTX 480M Fermi chip that ships with a lot of memory and a big power draw.
The new 40nm Nvidia chip was spotted as a configuration option on Eurocom’s X8100 Leopard laptop coupled 2GB GDDR5, an 18.4″ display, and Core i7 processor. It adds a price premium of $386, but ships with DirectX 11 support, PhysX, MXM 3.0b, and is expected to arrive in June.

On an 18.4″ laptop you don’t expect much battery life, but the 480M may push this machine closer to an hour of battery time rather than the more usual two hours. The chip is listed as have a 100 watt power draw making it a very hungry GPU. No doubt you’ll benefit from high FPS in the latest games, though.
