Apple’s iMac has stood as a prime example of all-in-one desktop design since its inception. When the current iMac design, which hides the entire computer behind the display, debuted rivals ridiculed Apple. Today, all major PC vendors keep all-in-ones in their lineup, but that hasn’t diminished the iMac’s popularity.
Quite to the contrary, Apple may be the biggest individual seller of all-in-one PCs this year, trade publication Digitimes suggested Friday. Industry sources told the publication that third-party manufacturer Quanta Computers has been overwhelmed with orders from Apple for its latest iMacs, those unveiled Tuesday. This has prompted Quanta to increase its all-in-one 2010 shipment estimate to between four and five million units, with the biggest chunk of this output going straight to Apple:
Market watchers also noted that within the company’s 4-5 million all-in-one PC shipments in 2010, with more than three million units will be contributed by Apple, while the remaining will mainly come from Hewlett-Packard (HP).
In other words, Apple could sell twice as many all-in-one computers than HP, the biggest PC vendor in the world. It should be noted that Quanta Computers is the largest all-in-one PC maker in the world and it will, according to Digitimes Research, grab up to half of global all-in-one shipments. This number is estimated to be 11.1 million units this year
