What is it?

Take everything you know or think you know about the humble computer mouse and throw it out the window. Say hello to the funky Microsoft Arc Touch mouse.

What's special about it?

The Arc Touch is unique in many ways. The first thing that strikes you is the form factor. Out of the box, it is a sleek, flat matte plastic with a glossy plastic head.

To power it on, you bend it until it snaps into place, ready and arched for your comfort. Just snap it back flat to turn it off. Snappy.

The minimalist design houses the right and left click and touch-scroll options on the glossy plastic head. Microsoft uses something called BlueTrack for tracking, which is signified by a blue light. BlueTrack allows you to use the mouse on any surface you can think of (except clear glass) for easy, uninterrupted browsing.

How does it work?

The Arc Touch comes packed with a tiny USB wireless receiver that you plug in and you're ready to go. The receiver is tiny and looks almost flushed so it doesn't take up any space. When travelling (the mouse seems designed for people on the move), the receiver clips on to the bottom of the mouse via magnets so you don't lose it. The head of the mouse also houses two AA batteries.

What about compatibility?

This mouse is designed to be a plug and play. Which means it works immediately as soon as you plug the receiver in and snap it into shape, even on Mac OS computers. Windows users have an advantage in that they have the option to customise the mouse and scroll speed and choose different pointers via a downloadable software.

So what's the damage and where can I buy it?

The Microsoft Arc Touch mouse is available for Dh300 at all Virgin Megastore outlets.
