MediaTek True Octa Core is a eight core chip for mobile devices. It’s callled ‘True’ as it’s the only octa core chip that can run 8 CPU cores simultaneously. In Samsung Exynos 5410 (used in Samsung Galaxy S4 GT-I9500) eight cores are there but 4 ARM Cortex A15 cores are coupled with 4 ARM Cortex A7 using ARM’s big.LITTLE technology. At a time max 4 cores are active. Now in MediaTek True Octa if all 8 cores are active at a time then processing sped will be faster, smoother and better. The CPU used here are unknown. It’s also not clear whether MediaTek True Octa and MediaTek MT6592 are same or not.
MediaTek True Octa core chip can be a good choice for gamers. Octa core chip straight away increases the degree of multitasking. The GPU is unknown but PowerVR SGX544MP3 or PowerVR SGX554MP looks like to be there. It could also be Mali-400MP series GPU. In any way eight 1.7-2.0 GHz clocked CPU is a beast.

MediaTek True Octa Configuration
The octa core MediaTek True Octa will also ensure no lag during high-end gaming, web browsing, efficient video playback, 18% compressed HEVC (H.265) 1080p FHD playback.
Since the chip is coming from the house of MediaTek we can assume China phone markers will adopt this chip as soon as they can. It’s rumored that Micromax A240 Canvas 5 will run MediaTek MT6592 Octa core chip.
Expected release date of MediaTek True Octa Core is quarter 4 this year which means by December we will have handful of devices running this chip.
