JVC has just announced a very expensive new projector that would suit anyone who likes HD, but can’t decide what to watch.
The DLA-SH7NL has dual ultra-high-pressure mercury lamps allowing for 5,000 lumens of brightness at 330W each. It has a resolution of 4,096 x 2,400 and a contrast ratio of 10,000:1; meaning you can display 4x the resolution of current 1080p content.
More practical, however, is to use that resolution to see more HD content at the same time. JVC has included a Digital Direct Drive Image Light Amplifier (D-ILA) which basically means the projector can output 4 HD screens at once. For entertainment that means news, weather, movie, and music channel feeds all at the same time. For the worker or geek it potentially means a TV and three PC’s all hooked up to one display unit.
To help support your viewing needs JVC has included four DVI-D connections, LAN, and a single USB port on the back (what, no HDMI?). You can configure it via a web browser, store settings on a USB stick, and hook up multiple projectors to a single PC. Best of all, JVC has built-in a health checking system so when an error occurs, or the lamp needs replacing, you’ll get an e-mail.
If the DLA-SH7NL looks like your perfect project, start saving. This black box will cost you $15,000 when it sees a release in March. You will also need something solid to store it on as the unit weighs 50kg.a
