Japanese retailers believe Nintendo has stopped manufacturin

If you go into a games retail store today to buy a Nintendo handheld, you will likely be offered two choices: the DSi or the larger DSi XL. But that doesn’t look set to be the case for much longer.
According to Japanese retailers it is now not possible to order in new stock of the DSi as Nintendo has ceased production. Some retailers in Japan are already running low on stock or have completely sold out.
However, the DSi XL is still readily available suggesting that Nintendo has decided the larger version is the only option those seeking a new DS will have going forward.
At the moment this is unconfirmed news, but if true, it would suggest that Nintendo sees the DSi as potentially confusing to consumers considering a 3DS purchase next month in Japan. The significantly larger DSi XL is clearly a different machine just by looking at the two next to each other.
If you were considering purchasing a DSi then it may be wise to buy one sooner rather than later. If Nintendo confirms the handheld has been discontinued stocks will dry up fast. Personally, I prefer the DSi XL (see our review) and suggest anyone try it before deciding to opt for its smaller brother.
