iPad shortages follow release of 3G model
AppleInsider reports they have contacted ten stores and after just a week of availability, all are sold out of the iPad Wi-Fi + 3G models. This coincides with a current wait time of 5 - 7 business days for both models for purchases from the Apple online store. Customers looking to get a 3G iPad in person are being referred to Apple’s ‘Notify Me’ service which will automatically email customers when the device is restocked.
With the recent announcement that Apple has sold over 1 million iPads, and word that it will hit some international markets on May 28th, it appears that Apple is having trouble keeping up with demand.
MacRumors relays that Apple Spokeswoman Natalie Kerris said, "Demand continues to exceed supply. We're working hard." It is conceivable that Apple simply wasn’t able to accurately predict demand for the iPad when previous attempts by others to market tablet products have been met with tepid consumer interest.
