Intel knocks 48% off Core i7-870 price

At the beginning of this month Digitimes released a list of processor price drops it believed Intel was going to make over the next few months. Today, Intel did both drop prices and discontinue some chips making the Digitimes predictions at least partly correct. The price drops include the following processors:

• Core i7-870 4-core $294 (was $562)
• Core i3-540 $117 (was $133)
• Pentium E6600 $75 (was $84)
• Pentium E5500 $64 (was $75)

Both the Pentium E6300 and E7400 are being discontinued as well as the Celeron E3200.
