HP Mini 5103 business netbook now shipping in the US for $399 and up

The HP Mini 5103 is a (kind of) new business class netbook from HP. The machine is virtually identical to the HP Mini 5102 I reviewed earlier this year except that it has newer Intel Atom processors that can support DDR3 memory. Last week the HP Mini 5103 went on sale in Italy, and today it’s available for purchase in the US, with a starting price of $399.

Her’s a quick overview of the specs:

* CPU: 1.66GHz Intel Atom N455 or 1.83GHz Intel Atom N475
* Graphics: Intel GMA 3150
* Memory: 1G to 2GB DDR3 1333MHz RAM
* Display: 10.1 inches (touch screen version available)
* OS: Windows 7 Home Premium, Windows 7 Starter, SUSE Linux Enterprise 11, or FreeDOS
* Storage: 7200rpm hard drive (160GB to 320GB) or Solid State Disk (80GB or 120GB)
* I/O: 3 USB 2.0 ports, VGA, mic, headphone, 2MP webcam
* Connectivity: Ethernet, 802.11b/g/n WiFi, Bluetooth 2.1
* Battery: 4 cell 29Whr or 6 cell 66Whr

The laptop measures 10.3″ x 7.1″ x 0.9″ and weighs about 2.6 pounds. Right now there don’t seem to be any configuration options available on the HP web site. But for $399 you get the netbook with Windows 7 Starter, Office 2010 Starter, an Atom N455 CPU, 1GB of memory, and a 250GB hard drive. This model also has a hard drive sensor to protect your computer from damage in the event of a fall, and a spill-resistant keyboard.[/img]
