After years of waiting, Microsoft and Epic Games have just announced when players can expect to finally finish the fight against the nefarious forces of the Locust: Gears of War 3 will finally make its way to the Xbox 360 on September 20th.
Originally due to launch back in April of 2011, Gears of War 3 was delayed late last year, not due to falling behind schedule or because of quality issues, but as a business decision. In other words, Microsoft felt placing it in September would better help differentiate the title as one of the biggest games of the year.
According to executive producer Rod Fergusson, Gears of War 3 is slated to be the most polished Gears of War title yet.
Plotwise, the game takes place eighteen months after the fall of Jacinto. The Gears have moved to the island of Vectes and are living aboard a converted aircraft carrier called the Raven’s Nest. The government has disbanded and the immulsion that powered Sera’s cities has infected and mutated members of the Locust, causing them to become Lambent. The Lambent are now evolving into a new enemy that threatens both the Locust and humanity.
Featuring a new four-player co-op mode and the introducing of three new female “Gears,” GoW3 is slated to feature new weapons, a fully controllable mech suit, a new multiplayer “Beast” mode and several new enemies.
A multiplayer beta will roll out several months before release, and Epic is promising that there will be multiple ways to gain access to the beta.
