In his Microsoft Worldwide Partner Conference keynote, Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer made something clear: Windows 7 tablets would be arriving this year. Microsoft is “hardcore” into tablet computing and will be competing in this space before the year is out (and presumably before Apple has completely taken over with its iPad).
Current partners for the Win 7 tablet launch include Asus, Dell, Samsung, Sony, and Toshiba, notes ZDnet’s Mary Jo Foley who covered the event. Noticeably absent from that list is the world largest computer manufacturer, HP, whose Slate Ballmer showed off at CES 2010 highlighting it as being a competitor to Apple’s yet-to-be-released iPad.
HP has since purchased Palm and is said to be using webOS on its tablets as opposed to the heavier, and desktop/laptop-oriented, Windows 7. That said, HP is listed on the WPC Windows 7 Slate partners list though, along with Fujitsu, MSI, Panasonic, and others.
