As everyone watches the iPad launch getting ever closer, other manufacturers are starting to show their hand in the e-reader market. Asus is taking more of a Kindle than iPad approach with the official unveiling of the DR-900 e-reader.
Asus chose CeBIT show this week to show the 9″ DR-900, which looks to be a basic e-reading device with touchscreen. Here’s the specs we know so far:

  • 9″ 1024 x 768 Sipix touchscreen display
  • 10,000 pages on a single charge
  • WiFi and 3G option
  • 4GB internal memory
  • PDF, TXT, MP3, and ePUB support
We also suspect this is going to be a very light device to carry around. The Asus DR-950 weighs just 370 grams and we suspect the DR-900 to be no different. Compare that to the Kindle DX which weighs 536 grams.
The official press release has yet to appear, and pricing hasn’t been announced yet.
