In the coming days, Apple products might feature a change in the credentials written on it. It would be “Designed by Apple in Cupertino, Assembled in the USA". Rather than “Designed by Apple in Cupertino, Assembled in China”.
This, after Apple’s CEO Tim Cook on May 21 revealed the state in which the company planned to build these products. It was never a surprise that Cook stated that the Made-in-USA Mac will be assembled in Texas. This is after a plant of Foxconn, a Taiwanese multinational electronics contract manufacturing company, located in Texas had handled Apple’s hardware production and assembly in the past.
Made-in-USA Mac is not much far
Cook, during his appearance before the Senate Permanent Subcommittee on Investigations for the Apple’s tax avoidance case, also said that the components for the same will be produced in Illinois, Florida, Kentucky and Michigan. “We’re investing $100 million to build a Mac product line here in the U.S. The product will be assembled in Texas, include components made in Illinois and Florida, and rely on equipment produced in Kentucky and Michigan.” said Cook.
Cook affirmed that Apple was planning to expand its existing manufacturing operations in the country so that it could meet the needs of customers. Cook further stated that this move by the company didn’t imply that it will be setting up its own production facilities. And now with that state in which the production will be handled being disclosed, Apple’s likely manufacturing partner is clear. Though this is not definitive proof that Foxconn will manufacture Apple’s Made-in-USA Mac, it certainly is a clear indication that it might.
