In April AMD surprised Intel and a few consumers by releasing a 6-core Phenom II processor for just $229.29, it’s now just $199.99. Intel’s 980X remains at around $1,000.
The Phenom II X6 1055T was a tempting buy. Although it can’t compete on performance with the 980X, the fact it brings an $800 saving over Intel’s chip is reason enough to select one over the other.
Now AMD is set to make the 1055T even more tempting by significantly reducing its power use. The original chip had a 125W TDP, but a new model which seems to be exactly the same in every way, has a 95W TDP.
Although AMD hasn’t officially announced the updated 1055T a product listing has appeared for it on the Geizhals.eu website. No price is listed, but we suspect it will be like for like with the older model.
Here’s the spec listing for the chip:

  • Six-Core “Thuban” running at 2.8GHz
  • TDP: 95W
  • Production: 45nm
  • L2-Cache: 6x 512kB
