Xiaomi Redmi Note 2 that was announced last week went on sale in China yesterday. Xiaomi has announced that it sold 800,000 Redmi Note 2 smartphones in the first 12 hours of sale, which is a new record for the company. Back in April Xiaomi entered into the Guinness Book of World Records for selling 2.11 million smartphones online in 24 hours during its Mi Fan Fest in China.
Xiaomi also partnered with Didi Dache, China’s largest taxi-hailing app for the first time to provide on-demand delivery for Mi phones yesterday. Xiaomi’s President Bin Lin delivered some units personally on a green Lamborghini. According to a recent report Xiaomi has 15.9% market share in China overtaking Apple.
To remind you, the Redmi Note 2 packs a 5.5-inch (1920 x 1080 pixels) display, is powered by an Octa-Core MediaTek Helio X10 processor, runs on MIUI 7 based on Android 5.0, has a 13-megapixel rear camera with LED flash and phase-detection auto-focus, 5-megapixel front-facing camera, 16GB or 32GB of internal storage with expansion slot, Dual SIM support, 4G connectivity, Infrared sensor and a 3060mAh removable battery.
The Redmi Note 2 will be available once again on August 24th in China in second round of sales, said the company. Xiaomi has not announced when it plans to roll out the smartphone outside China, but we can expect an announcement related to it at the global MIUI 7 launch premier in India this Wednesday. Since it is powered by a MediaTek SoC, it might come to India with a Snapdragon SoC, since Xiaomi is not allowed to sell smartphones powered by MediaTek SoCs due to a patent infringement on Ericsson’s Standard Essential Patents (SEPs).
